PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Former Florida Senator and member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Bob Graham, spoke out to call for the release of 28 classified pages in the 9/11 report that details a possible connection between Saudi Arabia and the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Graham told Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that many reasons exist as to why the connections remain secret and those 28 pages remain redacted.
“There are a lot of suggestions. Oil is a suggestion. The long time relationship that the United States and the Saudi’s have had, under which we provide them with defense, they provide us with petroleum. It could be, at least under the Bush Administration, the family relationship between the House of Saud and the Bush family. It also could be that the current administration feels the situation in the Middle East is so much in disarray that to open up files that would indicate Saudi Arabia was involved in financing 9/11 would just add another level of instability to the region.”
He insisted that maintaining the status quo puts more lives at risk than revealing the truth would.
“They have been given impunity. They can do whatever they want to. They’re continuing to finance and support Wahabism, a violent form of the Islam religion which denigrates infidels, people who don’t agree with them, and has repressive policies against the rights of women. Saudi Arabia continues to be a prime supporter of Al Qaeda and was part of the organization of ISIS. Those are what we have gotten as a result of our failure to disclose the full extent of Saudi Arabia’s involvement in 9/11”
Graham called for the information to be released immediately.
“The American people deserve the truth. The families and victims deserve justice. America deserves the security that would come by having a Saudi Arabia that knows that its actions are going to be made public and, therefore, they would be constrained by the normal human impulse not to have their evil deeds become known.”
